best artist? i doubt it. to put it bluntly, i would imagine the mods here at deviantart think that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". to word it as vaguely as "best artist" implies that everyone can agree. but with the sheer amount of styles, subject matter, media, and artistic message, it would be impossible to determine the "best artist". maybe the artist with the highest amount of experience, or the artist that can best portray a certain idea or theme that has been set as the subject of the contest.
The colors. (checking the designs again to assure I wasn't making a blind assertion) This mech and the prometheans have very different plating forms/styles, so essentially their only resemblance is that they are grey metal with glowing orange parts. This "black and orange" is a very common artistic theme, so making that kind of comparison can be derogatory toward the artists creativity. At best it shows that you're naive as far as artist perception goes, at worst you insult the artist. I hope this doesn't come off as an offensive comment to you, I hope more that several people will read this explanation so that viewers can make more appropriate comments toward the art they enjoy. I just want to educate people, that in the future someones response wont be a kneejerk reaction lumping an artist under a videogame/film/IP.
ah. i see what you mean. And i don't take it as an insult, I'm just glad it wasn't worded in such a way as to imply you had feelings of superiority. A Llama badge for you, sir!
but yeah, I think i remember being under the influence of copious amount of mountain dew and adrenaline(paintball) and i posted it without thinking.
Now that i have the chance to actually look closely, I notice that it's done in such a detailed way that until i looked at the medium used, i thought it was something along the lines of a skillfully made model. But altogether i do admire the composition and contrast of the piece. Kinda makes me think of something that is sleek, deadly, and powerful, yet noble and reserved.
